With the release of iPhone 7, Apple cleverly released an updated iPhone Smart Battery Case. But the question is, Is it for user convenience or because Apple truly loves its money?
All the iPhone users will definitely be familiar with the ‘battery not lasting a decent 6 hours’ problem. Upgraders who use iPhone 6 Smart Battery Case now have a tough decision to make. They have two options, either to sacrifice the new optical image stabilised camera or to hand over a nice $99 to Apple. For the same functionality they could access through their previous case.
Apple does the same thing every single time. Take last year’s model, tweak it just enough so everyone feels the need to upgrade to the latest model. Lastly, rely on a bigger number in the specification sheet. Make it feel ‘new’ while plastering covers on the same old functionality. The new case makes no accommodation whatsoever for the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6S.
Apparently, Apple believes in small improvements. Speaking with an instance, the 3.5mm headphone jack, when it wasn’t removed, and the centre of the speaker holes, lightning port, all line up along a single axis. Because Apple has moved the centre point of the camera lens, the cutout for the larger camera housing on the iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case still obscures the lens on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. Similarly, when battery case of some older iPhone version is used with iPhone 7, the camera lens is ones again obscured.
The battery case has its functionality, no denying there. However, there does not seem to be anything new than the previous, comparatively cheap iPhone 6 Smart battery case. There are no clean lines and the battery pack projects out like in an awkward fashion. Also, the charging LED is still on the inside of the case and is not visible when the iPhone is in situ.
The location, the circuitry, and the battery of the lightning connector means that the iPhones can work in opposite cases. The iPhone 7 in the 6′s case and the 6/6S in the 7′s case. All of the cases designed for the iPhone 6 and 6S are incompatible. This is because Apple made the decision to move the camera lens rather than work the problem to retain as much backward compatibility as possible. The two cases are mostly identical but users have to buy the new one for their camera quality.
Clearly, there’s no such thing as the iPhone Smart Battery Case Upgrade Program. Which so confidently states it as “a magical experience” which “makes life easier”. However, spending money on the electronics we already have is making our life easier in no way. The case does the same thing as last year’s case. Not many changes except for design were noted. Like always, Apple’s greed kicks in.
Surprisingly, the new battery case does not have waterproofing protection feature as iPhone 7 does. Strange the feature that was boasted about in iPhone 7, is not added to its battery case. Apple really wants to make things easier for its users, doesn’t it?
Apple’s Smart Battery Case is a product that seems improvised. It clearly does nothing to promote Apple as a leading design light in the smartphone space. Apple has increased the battery capacity from 1877 mAh to 2365 mAh. Which is a positive point in a pool of all the negative ones. Moreover, Smart Battery Case effectively doubles the life of your smartphone. Given the fact that iPhone 7 has 1960 mah battery. Making the usual inefficiency in charging more highlighted by the minute.
