Apple is expected to unveil a redesigned iPhone in 2017. However, some people have observed that the iPhone 7 was a largely incremental update. S-series iPhones are also supposed to be incremental updates, but the phone that is coming in the 2017 “iPhone 7s” is expected to be a much more improvement to the line. So some people believe that Apple might break its naming tradition in 2017, skip iPhone 7s, and give the iPhone a new number or name out of step with the current sequence. “iPhone 8” would be one option..
An Apple employee actually revealed the name to Business Insider at the company’s research and development facility in Israel. The unnamed employee apparently confirmed that staff at the office is working on Apple’s “next” products, mentioning the “iPhone 8” by name without any prompting.
The source also noted that the iPhone 8 will be “different” from the last few models, adding that it will have better and improved camera than the previous models. Based on earlier reports Apple may introduce a design with an edge-to-edge display, embedding the fingerprint scanner and front-facing camera into the glass
The office was established after Apple acquired two Israeli startups focused on flash memory and 3D sensors. The employee didn’t reveal any more information, though the facility apparently focuses on mobile hardware, including cameras, chips and wireless technology.
There is no conformation about the new iPhone will actually be called the iPhone 8. The final name will be decided by Apple executives in Cupertino, and it’s likely the company is still thinking about naming it. 2017 could mark a new era for its iPhone legacy.
Here is a round up of everything we know .
iPhone 8 screen
iPhone 8 could see the display undergo its biggest change yet. Apple is famous for not upgrading iPhone screen features except for increasing the sizes with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the iPhone 8 will have a curved AMOLED display.
AMOLED is a technology that can deliver great contrast and vibrant colors, mainly used by Samsung phones, like the Samsung Galaxy S7.
The iPhone 8 display could also be larger. Also, Ming-Chi Kuo claimed it could be up to 5.8 inches, making the phone larger than the 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 7. If the screen does get larger it will most probably get sharper, delivering QHD iPhone display.
John Gruber recently claimed “The entire face will be the display. And the Touch ID sensor will be somehow embedded in the display. The front-facing camera will somehow be embedded in the display. The speaker, everything. All the sensors will somehow be behind the display.”
Not to mention home button changes made in iPhone 7. It doesn’t click by pressing anymore. Apple is not going to drop the feature this soon. It is likely to be added to iPhone 8 as well. Summarizing;
- A curved AMOLED display
- A 5.8-inch screen
- No home button and no bezels
iPhone 8 power and OS
Along with the chip likely called the A11 Fusion or the A11 , we expect quad-core again for the iPhone 8, as Apple just moved to a quad-core chip with the iPhone 7 range.
iPhone 8 will likely run iOS 11, given that iOS 10 has just landed. However, there have been no rumours or claims regarding its features.
iPhone 7 has just 2GB of RAM, the iPhone 7 Plus has 3GB and the iPad Pro 12.9 has 4GB. Therefore, 3GB or 4GB RAM are our best bets.
iPhone 8 design
When it comes to design, Apple has not changed much in last three iPhone models. Also in a hope that changes will be made marking Apple’s 10th anniversary.
The phone will have a curved glass back along with a curved screen, instead of the metal used for iPhone 7. The CEO of the company claimed that one model of the phone “will adopt glass casing next year.”
the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge’s design sounds much like of new iPhone 8. There would certainly be a metal frame, both panels are rumoured to be curved. The look of the two phones will possibly be strikingly similar.
If you are a fanatic of metal backs you might be fortunate. Because the mention of “one model” going glass suggests the other won’t, so perhaps we’ll see a glass iPhone 7S but a metal iPhone 7S Plus, or vice versa. Touch ID will be built into the screen, chances are there will be a removal of the home button.
However, Some features will remain unchanged. Including the waterproofing which Apple added to its phones a while ago. Most certainly, Headphone jack will not be there.
As discussions suggest, A Smart Connector is a possible feature. Though it would prove less useful fit than on an iPad. The iPhone 8 might have an iris scanner too. Though only if Apple can make it fast to use.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 already has one the iris scanner, though Samsung’s implementation is a bit slow and Apple isn’t likely to include one unless it can improve the performance and make it faster.
iPhone 8 camera and battery
According to a research note, the high cost and niche appeal of dual-lens cameras meant Apple would probably limit the tech to “high-end” models. The high end model likely is the iPhone 8 Plus.
In the same note suggested that the telephoto lens in the dual-lens camera might get optical image stabilisation. Currently, only the wide-angle lens does that.
Apple might finally support wireless charging. Removal of the headphone jack being free of cables completely is surely the next step. Also, it is gathering extensive rivals for Apple. There’s evidence that Apple has been looking into this tech, but it might not be ready in time for the iPhone 8.
Camera rumors are reportedly slim in number. Apple might change the megapixel count from 12MP. Though the feature is highly common among manufacturers, Apple is also likely to drop the idea for the same reason.
Apple can disregard those rivals and introduce a wireless charger. The features would include: no contact required between the device and the power source, works at a distance.
Apple recently upped the front camera quality to 7MP, iPhone 8 might get the same front camera quality.
iPhone 8 price
There aren’t any price rumours yet, but the iPhone 8 is likely to cost a similar amount to the iPhone 7. A starting price of around $649/£599/AU$1,079, rising to around $849/£799/AU$1,379 for the largest storage size. There is huge fanbase in India for iPhone and iPhone 8 price in India is expected to be around Rs.43000 and above. For iPhone 8, it might rise even higher as Apple surely likes its money.
