Apple Is Not Forcing People To Upgrade
As it is a completely new OS update, the download will not start without the user’s permission. You don’t need to worry about that if you do not prefer the new software. This is in the favor of users who are not ready to upgrade or want to upgrade to macOS Sierra at a time of their own choosing. If you are one of them, all you have to do is delete the installer or disable automatic downloads from the App Store to avoid it. Here’s an illustration.
Apple, while sharing the news said that the update will only be downloaded on computers that meet the specs for macOS Sierra. Also, if they have an adequate amount of storage space. Apple ensures its customer’s convenience (there are some annoying exceptions, which of course, do not apply to this case).
Apple is also being smart about the download. If your computer is low on space, macOS Sierra will not download. In addition, if it has downloaded and your computer starts to get low on space, the download will be automatically deleted.
The move is very similar to when Microsoft launched Windows 10. This was the reason behind a sudden boost in the number of people who upgraded. Same will likely be seen for Apple as well.
