Russia is now a member of the Apple Pay Club contributing as the 10th country to it.
Apple Pay has come a long way since it was introduced by the company on Apple’s regional website, where it was revealed that the system will come via Mastercard. Through all the progress and appraisal, Apple Pay now successfully covers ten countries. The launch was announced earlier today on Apple’s Russian website. However, Apple is yet to announce Apple Pay availability on the U.S. website. Hopefully, that will happen soon as well.
The service in Russia currently confines in a limit. It allows access via one bank and one card type. It is available only for MasterCard holders banking with Sberbank. Supporting both credit and debit cards. We expect the service to expand over time.
However, Apple Pay can easily be set up in the Sberbank Online mobile application. This will be quite familiar to Sberbank cardholders. Users can continue to have all the benefits from using their credit and debit cards while also using the contactless payment service. Apple Pay’s launch in the tenth country is going to be a big hit as it seems.
Experts of the Cult Of Mac believe that the main reason for the delay in the release of Apple Pay to the Russian market up until now, most likely, was a self-development strategy. The company did not dive into it immediately. This was obviously a wise decision.
Apple Pay works in the store with the iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and later models, as well as the Apple Watch. Reportedly, participating retailers include ATAK, Magnit, Media Markt, Auchan, Azbuka Vkusa, bp, M.Video, TsUM. Also, of course, authorized Apple reseller re:Store. In coming years, contactless payments will be available at Electronics store Eldorado and Burger King.
Apple Pay now has an awesome feature of web payments, all thanks to the macOS 12.12. However, no information is available on whether or not the Russian apps and online vendors will support this.
What to expect in near future?
Apple Pay vice president Jennifer Bailey says Apple is rapidly working towards expanding the service in other Asian and Europan countries as well. So we can soon expect it to launch in an 11th country. Most probably an Asian or European one.
Apple’s intention to bring the system to Russia got quite clear during its iPhone 7 event last month. Also, we expect Apple to launch the service in New Zealand soon. Apple’s $586bn market value is the result of their great services and products with amazing features. Even after the death Steve Jobs, the company continues what he started. And it seems Apple will do the same in future years as well. With more and more products and updates on their way, Apple stands high in a low crowd. Also, with Apple Pay on rising, it will mark a great reputation in the online payment industry. As it already is.
